Personally World War II, also proved there is no true good side, just a different degree of evil/bad.
Wars accelerate development, it doesn't cause it. Computers were coming to the forefront anyway (and it still took another 40 years for the PC), women's rights were sorted out well before WW2, and I think your HHS was ment to be NHS, maybe war related but it probably would have came into existence anyway.
